Dust Kills

Dust Kills

Dust. It Can Kill

Not today. But years down the line. Don't risk your or your workers long term health. Protect lungs from dust.

Construction workers die every week from lung diseases caused by exposure to dust. Many more suffer from severe chronic long-term lung conditions. Don’t make the same mistake as those who have not realised the health risks of exposure to dust and have worked unprotected. Make sure you are aware of the risks and know what to do to keep you and your workers safe.

Dust is a silent and sometimes invisible killer.

Dust particles can be 100 times smaller than a grain of sand. You don’t need to see them to breathe them in. Once in your lungs, dust will start causing damage. Exposure to dust can lead to severe breathing difficulties and lung diseases that can ruin lives and cause an early death. It can take years before the damage is visible and by then it can be too late. Make sure you are aware of the risks and work in ways that always protect your lung health.

Reducing your exposure to construction dust.

Some of the most common construction jobs create high dust levels. These jobs often involve the use of power tools like cut-off saws, grinders, breakers and sanders. There is a legal duty for employers to prevent or adequately control worker exposure to construction dust. Ideally, your employer will eliminate your risk of exposure to dust by good design and planning. Where this is not entirely possible, measures should be put in place by your employer to control dust and you should wear an appropriate mask

Use on-tool extraction when using power tools

On-tool extraction is an effective control for dust and will reduce your risk of ill health. On-tool extraction is a type of local exhaust ventilation (LEV) system which is fitted directly onto the tool.

Drilling in concrete, stone, brick

When you drill into concrete or other mineral materials containing quartz, such as brick or stone, you create large amounts of silica dust. One of the most common and hazardous dust types on the jobsite, silica dust particles can be 100 times smaller than a grain of sand. Many workers breathe it in without realizing. This can lead to major health issues in the long-term such as silicosis (the scarring and stiffening of the lungs).

The best way to control dust is to stop it from getting into the air. That's why Bosch Professional's drilling dust attachments:

  • Fit seamlessly on your drill or rotary hammer
  • Don't get in the way of work
  • Capture dust at the drilling point
